How is Košice?

Košice is a vibrant city with approximately 260,000 residents, known for its beautiful architecture, historic landmarks, and rich cultural life. Founded in the 13th century, it has developed into a major cultural, academic, and economic hub.

The city offers a wide range of activities, including museums, galleries, theatres, cinemas, and music venues. With an average population age of around 35, Košice has a youthful and student-friendly atmosphere. There is also a small Muslim community in the city, along with a mosque, providing a welcoming environment for Muslim students.

UPJŠ also has many student organisations, including the Association of Medical Students in Košice. Students can participate in projects such as Dental Alarm and Day for Health, as well as various cultural, social, and sports activities.

Košice is well connected to major European cities: Bratislava (5 hours), Budapest (3.5 hours), Prague (8 hours), and Vienna (5.5 hours).

For nature lovers, the surrounding areas offer great opportunities for outdoor activities. The nearest ski resort, Kavečany, is just 9 km from the city and operates from December to February.

The Faculty of Medicine at Pavol Jozef Šafárik University (UPJŠ) offers internationally recognised study programs in General Medicine and Dental Medicine, both taught entirely in English.

The Faculty of Medicine offers two English-taught programs:

General Medicine
Dental Medicine

🩺 General Medicine (MUDr.)

Duration: 6 years (12 semesters)

The program prepares students for a career as a medical doctor. Students study:

• Anatomy, physiology, biochemistry and other pre-clinical sciences

• Pathology, pharmacology and clinical medicine

• Diagnostic and therapeutic procedures

• Preventive medicine and patient care

Students receive extensive clinical training in university hospitals and affiliated healthcare institutions.

Doctor of General Medicine (MUDr.)

🦷 Dental Medicine (DMD)

Duration: 5 years

The Dental Medicine program places strong emphasis on clinical and practical training, allowing students to develop the skills necessary to perform dental procedures independently after graduation.

Due to the intensive clinical training, the number of accepted students is limited to approximately 35 students per year.
