Study Dentistry in Europe
Five years, taught fully in English, at EU universities whose degrees are recognised in Norway, the UK and across Europe. You start working with your hands in the first years, not the last.
What five years of dentistry actually looks like
Dentistry is a hands-on degree from early on. You learn the science first, practise on models in the phantom lab, then treat real patients under supervision in the university clinic.
Science and the phantom lab
The same medical foundation as the doctors, anatomy, physiology and biochemistry, plus your first dental subjects. You spend hours in the phantom lab drilling and filling on models until your hands are steady.
Your first patients
You move from models to people. Under supervision you take histories, examine, clean and start restoring teeth, while pathology and pharmacology run alongside in the lecture hall.
In the clinic
Most of your week is spent treating patients in the university dental clinic, rotating through the specialities and building up your own case list before you graduate.
How you finish
The fifth year ends with state exams across the dental specialities. You graduate as a dentist, MDDr. in Slovakia and Czechia, DMD in English, ready to apply for your licence and start treating patients.
What language do you actually work in?
Everything you are examined on is in English. Alongside it you take the university's own medical language classes in Slovak or Czech, because from the third year you are treating real patients in the clinic. It is part of the timetable, not something you arrange yourself.
Where you can study dentistry with us
Three partner universities offer dentistry in English — UPJŠ, UPOL and RSU in Riga. All run five-year programmes with their own dental clinics.
UPJŠ Košice
UPJŠ moved its English dental programme from six years to five from the 2025/26 intake, in line with Poland and Czechia.
UPOL Olomouc
The Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry sits inside a university founded in 1573, and the entrance exam is taken online so you never have to travel for it.
RSU Riga
Riga's health-sciences university, founded in 1950, with its own dental clinics. The February 2027 intake is open, with studies from 2 February.
UMCH Hamburg teaches medicine only, so it is not an option for dentistry.
How you get in depends on the university
Some universities admit on one entrance exam, some on your grades alone, and NCU asks for the right subjects on your diploma plus an exam. Every route below is real, and we walk it with you, free.

What you need
- A finished high school diploma, 12 years of schooling. UK students need at least 3 A-levels in any subjects.
- A pass in the entrance exam. Biology and chemistry are the core at UPJŠ and UPOL, and we give you the material and mock tests for free. RSU has no exam and looks at your diploma instead.
- Proof that you can study in English. A certificate if you have one, or UPOL's own English test on exam day.
- Steady hands and patience. Nobody tests this at the door, but the phantom lab rewards it more than a high grade average does.
What you do not need
- No top grades. There is no numerus clausus and no points race. The exam decides.
- No portfolio or practical test. You do not need any prior dental experience to apply.
- No physics or maths at UPJŠ. The exam there is biology and chemistry only.
- No agency fees, ever. Medently is free for students. We are paid by the universities, not by you.
Dentistry places are more limited than medicine, so the exam matters and applying early matters. Exams run through the summer and you normally sign up about a week before the date you want. Every student who applies through us gets the question banks, the mock exam and a study plan at no cost.
What it costs, with nothing hidden
Tuition is paid to the university, usually in two instalments a year. You never pay us anything, and we never add a fee on top.
At UPJŠ and UPOL your tuition is locked when you enrol and does not go up year on year while you study. Norwegian students can fund the whole thing through Lånekassen, roughly 335,000 NOK a year for 2026/27 once you count basic support, the tuition loan and travel support.
What the degree is worth when you finish
All three universities are EU-accredited, so a dental degree from Košice, Olomouc or Riga is treated the same as one from home across the EU and EEA.

Your degree is automatically recognised across the EU and EEA, so you can apply for a licence in any member country.

You apply to Helsedirektoratet for autorisasjon as a tannlege, then start working. Many Norwegian dentists studied exactly this way.

Studying dentistry in Europe in English: the short version
Dentistry in English abroad has quietly become one of the most reliable routes into the profession for European students. The programme runs five years, ends in an MDDr, written DMD in English, and gives you a licence that works across the EU and EEA. Instead of competing on a grade average you sit one entrance exam in biology and chemistry, which means a prepared applicant with ordinary grades has a real chance.
Medently works with three universities for dentistry: Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice at €13,500 a year, Palacký University in Olomouc at €14,000 a year, and Rīga Stradiņš University in Riga at €15,500 a year. All three teach the whole programme in English and have their own dental clinics where you treat patients from the third year. UPJŠ runs a written exam on campus in Košice, UPOL runs its exam online, and RSU has no entrance exam at all, with a February intake.
The part students underestimate is the paperwork and the timing: translated documents, the postmark deadline at UPJŠ, the exam registration window, Lånekassen, and finding somewhere to live before term starts. That is what we handle with you, and students pay us nothing for it. The universities pay us, so the guidance, the exam preparation and the document work are free.
