How to get into
RSU in Riga.
There is no entrance exam at RSU. Your grades and your documents decide, which means the application file is everything. This page shows you exactly what RSU wants, and how we build that file with you, free.
The grades RSU actually asks for.
These are RSU's published minimums for the English programmes, from their own admission rules. Meeting them makes you eligible. A stronger file makes you competitive.
Non EU/EEA applicants have three extras: school documents need an apostille or legalisation, an English test such as IELTS 6.0 is mandatory, and RSU runs a recorded online motivational interview. EU/EEA applicants, including Norway, skip all three.
What documents do you need for RSU?
This is the complete file RSU expects, the same checklist we build with every student. Good quality scans, not phone photos.
Your vitnemål or diploma, plus a certified English translation with the translator's stamp and signature if it is not already in English.
The official list of your subjects and grades, translated the same way.
A clear scan of the data page.
One passport style photo, 3 by 4 cm.
RSU only accepts it on their own official form, signed. A letter in any other format is not read.
Both on RSU's own official form, signed by the referee. Teachers, professors or employers, never relatives or friends, and no older than two years.
The motivation and recommendation letters are the part most applicants get wrong, because RSU rejects free format letters. When you apply through Medently, both official RSU forms are waiting in your student portal in Word and PDF, with guidance on what a strong letter says.
How the RSU application actually works.
The whole thing runs on RSU's e-Admissions portal, and your Medently portal walks you through every screen of it.

Key dates for the February intake.
RSU reviews applications as they arrive, so early applicants get answers first and have time to fix any document the admissions office flags. RSU plans to admit 240 Medicine and 32 Dentistry students for the February intake.
Not sure your grades are enough?
Send us your vitnemål or transcript on WhatsApp and we tell you free, usually the same day, whether you meet RSU's requirements for Medicine or Dentistry, before you apply anywhere.
RSU admission, asked and answered.
Does RSU have an entrance exam?
No. RSU admits students based on their application file: grades, documents and letters. There is no exam to sit for the English Medicine and Dentistry programmes.
What grades do I need for Medicine at RSU?
English 70% or higher and Chemistry or Biology 70% or higher, with Mathematics completed at school. On a Norwegian vitnemål that means at least grade 4, with the science covered by Biologi 1 and/or Kjemi 2, and every subject passed.
What grades do I need for Dentistry at RSU?
80% in Chemistry or Biology, which is a 5 on the Norwegian scale. RSU evaluates applicants who have only one of the two and gives priority to those who have both, and Dentistry has far fewer places than Medicine, so both sciences are the target to aim for.
What documents does RSU require?
Diploma and transcript with certified English translations, passport, a 3 by 4 cm photo, a motivation letter on RSU's own signed form, and two recommendation letters on RSU's own form signed by the referees.
Who can write my recommendation letters?
Teachers, professors, employers or course instructors. Never relatives or friends. Both letters must use RSU's official form, be signed by the referee, and be no older than two years.
When is the deadline for the February intake?
The window for EU/EEA applicants runs from 1 September to 1 December 2026, and studies begin 2 February 2027. RSU asks for early applications so documents can be fixed in time, and decisions arrive on a rolling basis.
Do I need IELTS for RSU?
Not usually, if you are from the EU or EEA. RSU accepts very good English grades from your school transcript as proof. A test is only needed when your grades do not show your level, and it is mandatory for non EU/EEA applicants.
Does Lånekassen support RSU?
Yes. Latvia is in the EEA, so Medicine and Dentistry at RSU qualify for ordinary Lånekassen support for studies abroad. Ask us and we will point you to the exact application steps.
